Fiorinia phantasma

Adult female pupillarial, enclosed within second-instar exuviae. Second-instar exuviae moderately sclerotized, with a small median patch of thinner cuticle near anterior margin. Posterior end of adult female within exuviae constricted and pointed. Appearance in life often distinctive: some or all elongate second-instar females/exuviae containing pupillarial adult females have a median series of red-brown spots or transverse red-brown stripes on a yellow background. Antennae set close together on margin of head, each bearing 1 long seta. Antennal spiracles each associated with 2 disc pores, each pore with 3 loculi. Pygidium with notch at apex formed by parallel median lobes separated by about width of 1 lobe; long setae present between median and second lobes, and lateral to second lobes. Ventral surface with perivulvar pores present in 5 elongate groups. Venter of abdomen with five longitudinal lines of microducts (one medial, two mediolateral, two submarginal); medial line sometimes incomplete. Pattern of derm surrounding large duct on head serpentine; inner apex of large duct on head flat.
