Body length 7.7–11.6 mm in males, 10–13 mm in females. Head cylindrical, retracted into pronotum, partially visible from above; eyes prominent, finely faceted, occupying ¾ of lateral margin of head, separated by antennal insertions; vertex between eyes coarsely punctate, bordered by a cariniform elevation; gena surface smooth to rugose, sparsely pubescent; clypeus protuberant, margins obvious, shape subtrapezoidal or oval, over 2 times wider than long; antennae with 11 antennomeres, scape, pedicel and antennomeres III–V shiny amber, sparsely setose, antennomeres VI–IX almost square, with short dense setae. Pronotum transverse, frequently more than twice as wide as long, surface pubescent or glabrous, variable in color and pattern; prosternal collar rugose, constrained medially, expanded over mouth up to mandible; prosternal process glabrous or with scattered setae, moderately grooved, apex rounded. Scutellum triangular, surface smooth, impunctate, black or fulvous. Elytra surface glabrous, black, with variable pattern and number of spots; ventrites surface smooth and glabrous, black or brown. Tibia with scattered pubescence, apex broad with longer setae, dorsal surface canaliculate. Both sexes have sternite V with lateral impressions.
