RMD-22-02: Pest risk management decision for the regulation of Cydalima perspectalis in Canada

This communication serves to inform Members that following a 30 day consultation of risk management document (RMD) RMD-22-02: Pest risk management proposal for the regulation of Cydalima perspectalis in Canada, previously notified in G/SPS/N/CAN/1448 (dated 5 August 2022), the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has adopted option 3: establishment of a regulated area for the province of Ontario.The CFIA has added Cydalima perspectalis, box tree moth (BTM) to its List of pests regulated by CanadaOn 12 December 2022, the CFIA has added import requirements for Buxus spp. plants for planting to the Automated Import Reference SystemA transition period of 60 days will be applied allowing importation of product without additional declarations on phytosanitary certificates until 10 February 2023 After this date, additional declarations will be required or consignments will be refused.Additional declarations:       "The consignment was produced and prepared for export under a CFIA-accepted systems approach for Cydalima perspectalisOR "The consignment was produced in a CFIA-recognized pest-free area for Cydalima perspectalisIn addition, the importation of Buxus spp. plants for planting originating from Cydalima perspectalis quarantine areas in the United States or from countries considered infested with Cydalima perspectalis will be prohibited into the Province of British Columbia.Changes will come into force on 10 February 2023.
