1.The notified text establishes specific health requirements for the importation into Chile of ornamental and exhibition birds, including birds intended for exhibition centres such as zoos and circuses, for genetic improvement, or for sale as pets or fighting birds.2.Health status of the country or area of origin.2.1.The country or area of origin has been declared free of notifiable avian influenza and Newcastle disease by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).2.2.The country or area of origin has a permanent surveillance programme for the aforementioned diseases and for other infectious or contagious diseases that affect birds, in accordance with the conditions established in the OIE Terrestrial Animal Code.3.The health status of the establishment of origin.3.1.The birds were kept in captivity since birth or for at least 90 days prior to their shipment to Chile, in an establishment registered by the competent health authority of the certifying country.3.2.The birds do not come from areas in which health restrictions have been imposed as part of health programmes to control or eradicate avian diseases, or from establishments located within a 10km radius of areas in which there have been outbreaks of avian flu or Newcastle disease in the preceding 30 days, as a minimum.3.3.The birds come from establishments in which there have been no cases of other infectious or contagious diseases that affect birds, and in which no health restrictions have been imposed as part of health programmes to control or eradicate avian diseases.4.Birds4.1.The birds must be identified individually with an identification band, microchip or other form of individual identification.4.2.They have not been vaccinated with any type of avian flu vaccine.4.3.They must have a CITES certificate, when appropriate.5.Pre-shipment quarantine5.1.The birds were quarantined for 30 days prior to their shipment to Chile, and were examined by an official veterinarian from the competent health authority. They did not display any obvious clinical signs of infectious or contagious diseases during the physical examination, during which they underwent the following treatments and diagnostic tests, the result of which were negative:5.1.1.Avian flu: A test to detect viral antigens carried out during the last 14 days of isolation by means of a tracheal and a cloacal swab. For small birds, only a cloacal swab is required.5.1.2.Newcastle disease: A viral isolation test carried out during the last 14 days of isolation by means of a tracheal and a cloacal swab. For small birds, only a cloacal swab is required.5.1.3.Trichomoniasis (only for birds belonging to the Columbiformes order): Direct microscopy of samples obtained by means of an oesophageal and a proventricular swab.5.1.4.Chlamydiosis and ornithosis: Treatment with antibiotics which are of proven efficacy and which are authorized by the competent health authority of the certifying country, during the 30 days of isolation.5.1.5.Parasites: Treatment with internal and external antiparasitics which are of proven efficacy and which are authorized by the competent health authority of the certifying country. The final treatment to eliminate and prevent parasites transmitted through mosquito bites was administered on the day of shipment.5.2.The diagnostic tests were carried out in an official laboratory or a laboratory authorized by the competent health authority, and the treatments were administered by an official veterinarian or a veterinarian authorized by the competent health authority.6.Shipment requirements6.1.The birds must be covered by an official health certificate issued in the language of the country of origin and in Spanish on the date of shipment by the competent health authority of the country of origin, which attests to the compliance of the shipment with health requirements, and which specifies the country, name and address of the establishment of origin, name of the importer, identification of the animals, to
