The notified Resolution establishes the mandatory phytosanitary requirements governing the importation into Costa Rica of fresh citrus fruit for consumption from the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.The importation of the following citrus fruits is authorized: sweet oranges (Citrus sinensis), mandarines (Citrus reticulata, Citrus clementina, Citrus deliciosa, Citrus unshiu), lemons (Citrus limon), kumquats (Citrus japonica syn. Fortunella japonica), Nagami kumquats (Citrus japonica syn. Fortunella margarita), and hybrids [Citrus nobilis x Citrus reticulata syn. Citrus deliciosa, Citrus clementina x Citrus reticulata syn. Citrus tangerina, (Citrus paradisi x Citrus reticulata syn. Citrus tangerina) x Citrus clementina, Citrus unshiu x Citrus sinensis, Citrus clementina x Citrus reticulata, Citrus clementina x (Citrus paradisi x Citrus reticulata syn. Citrus tangerina), Citrus clementina x (Citrus paradisi x Citrus reticulata syn. Citrus tangerina) x (Citrus x temple), Citrus paradisi x Citrus reticulata syn. Citrus tangerina, Citrus reticulata syn. Citrus tangerina x Citrus sinensis] for consumption.Shipments of such fruit must come from and be packed by producers and packers registered in the Citrus Fruit Phytosanitary Certification System (SCFFC) of the Directorate-General of Agricultural Services at the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, and be subject to controls in the field and during the processing of the fruit (washing, selection, brushing, disinfection, application of fungicides, and waxing).Shipments must be accompanied by an official phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin, which indicates, in the additional declarations section, that the shipment is free from Aspidiotus nerii, Ceroplastes rusci, Phyllosticta citricarpa, Icerya purchase and Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri.General requirements for fresh products for consumption: Products must be properly packaged and labelled, and be free from plant residues, soil, snails and slugs.Shipments will be inspected upon arrival in the country by officials from the State Phytosanitary Service at the point of entry. Compliance with the phytosanitary requirements will be verified.Failure to comply with the phytosanitary requirements established in this Resolution will be punishable in accordance with Law No. 7.664, Law on phytosanitary protection and its implementing Regulations.
