Import of poultry and poultry products into India in view of outbreak of Avian Influenza

On 26 July 2016, India notified1 to the SPS committee its notification S.O. 2337(E) on the introduction of a measure allowing import of poultry and poultry products into India upon occurrence of Avian Influenza.
Subsequently, while reviewing the notification, it was observed that the term "areas of low pest or disease prevalence" is inadvertently missing in the definition of "Pest-or disease-free areas and areas of low pest or disease prevalence" appearing in paragraph 1(d) of the notification S.O. 2337(E). Thus, in order to rectify the inadvertent omission, S.O. 2337(E) has been amended vide notification S.O. 510(E) dated 17 February 2017. Pursuant to the amendment, paragraph 1(d) of S.O. 2337(E) should be read as follows:
"Pest-or disease-free areas and areas of low pest or disease prevalence means the pest- or disease-free areas and areas of low pest or disease prevalence as defined in the World Trade Organization Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures".

The amendment notification S.O. 510(E) dated 17 February 2017 has come into force from the date of its publication, i.e. 17 February 2017 and is available at http://dahd.nic.in/sites/default/files/174221.pdf.
