The notified Law sets out principles and rules aimed at:
- controlling the introduction and spread of organisms that are harmful to plants, plant products and other regulated items throughout national territory, in order to ensure food security and facilitate international trade;
- regulating the investigation and prosecution of phytosanitary offences, and the penalties imposed on offenders.
