The notified document establishes the phytosanitary requirements governing the importation of melon (Cucumis melo L.) seed originating in and coming from China.
In order to enter the country, consignments must be covered by an original phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin, which contains an additional declaration stating the following:
Seed comes from a production site which has been registered, inspected and certified by the national plant protection organization (NPPO) of the country of origin, and which is free of: Squash mosaic virus, Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus and Acidovorax citrulli. The shipment must be free of soil, weed seed and all other vegetative material. Upon entry into the country, a phytosanitary diagnostic laboratory will carry out an inspection, sampling and an analysis to determine the presence or absence of pests. Shipments will be subject to phytosanitary control by plant quarantine inspectors from the Institute for Agricultural and Livestock Protection, who will verify compliance with the phytosanitary requirements and decide whether or not to authorize importation, on the basis of the accompanying documents.
