Removal of eight flavouring substances following Ministerial Determination

The United  Kingdom intends to remove eight food flavouring authorisations in Great Britain (GB) that are no longer in use. The flavouring industry has requested the revocation of these authorisations as they have decided not to provide any additional information that would be required to complete the evaluation of these flavouring substances. They will be revoked from the domestic list of authorised flavourings.  These eight food ‘flavouring substances under evaluation’ to be revoked from the domestic list are not widely used in foods therefore it is unlikely to cause any significant impacts on trade.  Any company may apply for the authorisation (or reauthorisation) of any of the substances, however, they would need to submit all the necessary studies to demonstrate the substance is safe. The application would be assessed in the same way as a request for the authorisation of a new flavouring/regulated product. Further information can be found in the consultations linked in section 9.
