In accordance with the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, the notified document advises that the Ministry of Agriculture and the Rural Development and the National Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality Service have established phytosanitary requirements governing the importation of botanical maize (Zea mays) seed originating in and coming from Italy.
The reason for the notified draft amendment is because, upon learning of a change in an exporting country's phytosanitary conditions, or the detection of a risk associated with the entry route not covered by existing import requirements, the Ministry is required to notify the importation ban in the "module of phytosanitary import requirements" or, if risk management measures are identified to ensure the appropriate level of phytosanitary protection required by our country, amendments made to phytosanitary requirements.
