In order to prevent the introduction of African swine fever  (ASF) virus into Japan, MAFF has suspended the import of live pig and pig meat and products thereof from Germany, including those shipped through third countries, on 11 September 2020 based on the "Animal health requirements for meat and viscera derived from pigs, and for sausages, ham and bacon made from the said meat and viscera as raw materials, to be exported to Japan from Germany", "Animal health requirements for heat-processed-meat, -viscera, -sausages, -ham and -bacon derived from pigs to be exported to Japan from Germany", "Animal health requirements for swine to be exported to Japan from Germany" and the Article 37 and 44 of the "Act on Domestic Animal Infectious Disease Control". Pig meat and products thereof derived from animals slaughtered on and after 2 August 2020 and live pigs transported from Germany to other countries on and after 2 August 2020 are not eligible to be exported to Japan, taking into consideration the incubation period of the ASF virus stipulated in the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

MAFF will add standards and specifications of Phytase to "Ministerial Ordinance on the Specifications and Standards of Feeds and Feed Additives" (Ordinance No. 35 of 24 July 1976 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry)

In order to prevent the introduction of H7N7 Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus into Japan, MAFF has suspended the import of live poultry, poultry meat and egg products from Australia, including those shipped through third countries, on 3 August 2020 based on the "Animal Health Requirements for poultry meat to be exported to Japan from Australia" and the Article 37 and 44 of the "Act on Domestic Animal Infectious Disease Control". Poultry meat products derived from animals slaughtered on and after 3 August 2020 and poultry egg products derived from eggs laid on and after 3 August 2020 are not eligible to be exported to Japan, taking into consideration the incubation period of the HPAI virus stipulated in the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

The revision of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Plant Protection Act for adding plants which are unnecessary to be accompanied by phytosanitary certificates that was notified by G/SPS/N/JPN /684 dated on 3 October 2019, after some modifications as shown in the attachment, was published in the Official Gazette on 5 August 2020 and came into force on the same day.（One file attached） However, it should be noted that, among the plants which came to require accompanying a phytosanitary certificate, those imported by cargo which have been exceptionally allowed to import without a phytosanitary certificate unless quarantine pest is detected at the import inspection before the revision of the Ordinance, will continue to receive such exceptional treatment for three years after the entry into force of the revised Ordinance.
