To establish the specifications for some non-synthetic food additives and to revise the existing standards and specifications such as testing methods.

The MRL is set as 90% dry matter base.

To prevent the introduction of Meloidogyne enterolobii into Japan, the MAFF will require National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPO) of exporting countries to certify that:For Underground parts of the live plants being capable of planting for cultivation of Ficus microcarpai)     The plants are grown at a place of production or a production site (including a plant growth facility) where M enterolobii has not been known to occur or was known to occur previously but has been eradicated; andii)    The plants are inspected at the place of production or the production site during the growing season, and the growing medium and the underground parts of the plants are examined by an appropriate nematological test and found to be free from M enterolobiiTherefore, the NPPO of exporting countries will be required to include an additional declaration stating that "Fulfills item 8 of the Annexed Table 1-2 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Plant Protection Act (MAF Ordinance No. 73/1950)Please note that the revision of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Plant Protection Act (MAF Ordinance No73/1950) will become effective on 1 August 2023, and the additional declaration should be "Fulfills item 13 of the Annexed Table 2-2 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Plant Protection Act (MAF Ordinance No73/1950)" from 1 August 2023.

In order to prevent the introduction of High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus into Japan, MAFF has taken import suspension measures based on Articles 37 and 44 of the "Act on Domestic Animal Infectious Disease Control" and other relevant requirements.

MAFF will add standards and specifications of Formic acid to the "Ministerial Ordinance on the Specifications and Standards of Feeds and Feed Additives" (Ordinance No. 35 of 24 July 1976 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry).

Japan has received some comments on the notification G/SPS/N/JPN/1099 circulated on 7 September 2022. In addition, there was a new application for some commodities. The MHLW has decided to revise the draft maximum residue limits (MRLs) for Glufosinate based on the provided data and the new application.

Partial revision of the specifications and standards for containers and packaging for milk and milk products notified in G/SPS/N/JPN/686 (dated 10 October 2019) were adopted and published on 4 December 2020.

The proposed maximum residue limits (MRLs) for Trifloxystrobin notified in G/SPS/N/JPN/1101 (dated 7 September 2022) were adopted and published on 14 February 2023. The specified MRLs are available as below:
