This document stipulates that no products listed in it shall be imported into the country unless they have been fortified with the stated micronutrients. These products include edible vegetable oils, maize meal, edible common salt, sugar and wheat flour. It outlines procedures for inspection and certification of such products as well as the levels of fortificants permissible in the respective food vehicles. Local manufacturers shall be required to use a fortification logo by written permission from the Secretary for Health and Child Care.

This document outlines the amendments being proposed to an existing statutory instrument on labelling for pre-packaged foods. It adds certain requirements for the declaration of the GMO content of foods, change of best before dates, new Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) for nutritional claims, and declaration of caffeine levels in energy and other soft drinks.
